Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), also known as Fused Filament Manufacturing (FFF), is an additive manufacturing method based on the extrusion of materials. The part is produced in FDM layer by layer by strategically depositing molten material along a predetermined path. The materials are thermoplastic polymers that come in the form of filaments.
FDM is the most widely available form of 3D printing. It is an additive manufacturing technology that selectively deposits molten plastic to build parts layer by layer. The technology is limited by the need for support material to print overhangs. These limitations must be considered when designing for FDM to achieve the best result.
